Happy Halloween from National Merchants Association! Today’s festivities in the office included a delicious potluck, and the Bean Boozle Challenge, in which NMA Team Members would spin a spinner and eat the jelly bean choice that the spinner landed on.

The challenge? The Team Members had to take the risk between eating a savory flavor, or a scary flavor – and they had no clue which was which!

Some Team Members ended up with lime jelly beans, tutti frutti, and coconut. Others ate the unfortunate flavors of canned dog food, skunk spray, booger, and stinky socks!

The lunch hour was filled with laughter, despite the looks of horror on the faces of those eating the unsavory candy.

Both events were developed and organized by National Merchants Association’s Office Manager, Hortencia Saenz, who also baked the main event for the potluck – the spider cake! The entire Team loved the event, and appreciated the work put in my Ms. Saenz.

“Humor is infectious. The sound of roaring laughter is far more contagious than any cough, sniffle, or sneeze. When laughter is shared, it binds people together and increases happiness and productivity,” said Ms. Saenz. “Laughter also triggers healthy physical changes in the body. Humor and laughter strengthen your immune system, boost your energy, diminish pain, and protect you from the damaging effects of stress.”

Ms. Saenz said that her inspiration behind this event was her desire to provide all of the above to the employees who spend countless hours each week doing serious tasks and duties.

“I wanted them to feel like even though we are required to be serious and responsible all the time, we all need a break every once in a while to refresh our mind, body, and spirit,” Ms. Saenz commented. “And I think this did the trick! We are all ready to tackle another wave of business come next Monday.”

When asked if she will organize something similar in the future, she said:

“Will I do this again? Perhaps. You’ll just have to wait and see!”

Happy Halloween!!!
